Kava, also known as Kava Kava, Awa, Ava, Yogana, or Keu, is a root that has a traditional history of use throughout the Polynesian, Melanesian and Micronesian cultures, reaching back at least 3000 years, where it is commonly used in social, celebratory, and ceremonial contexts. It is the plant Piper methysticum.

It is viewed as a plant of great importance, and has many mythological stories describing how it came to be known. It may be supportive in promoting tranquility, relaxation, sedation, easing generalised anxiety, and promoting restful sleep.

We have high quality kava from different pacific islands. Each unique to the soils it grows in, and the local genetic variations. Kava can be sourced from lateral or basal roots. The lateral root has the highest concentration of kavalactones and less starches, meaning it is stronger, but has the most Earthy taste. It is derived from smaller root stock extending from the main root stock. The basal root is the opposite. It has a higher amount of starches, and less kavalactones, meaning it is more mild and has a more pleasant taste.

Vanuatu: Lateral roots. This Kava is selected from plants 5 to 6 years in age that have been organically grown in rich volcanic soil.

Solomon Islands: Lateral roots. Selected from plants 7 years in age that have been organically grown in rich volcanic soil.

Fiji: Waka roots (local term for lateral roots). This high quality Kava is selected from plants at least 5 years in age that have been organically grown on the island of Vanua Levu.
