The leaves of the South American tree, Ilex guayusa. Guayusa is a tree that grows between 5 to 30 metres high, preferring altitudes of 200 to 2000 metres, and most commonly grows in Bolivia, Brazil, Ecuador, Southwestern Colombia, and Northeastern Peru.

Guayusa is traditionally drunk as a tea in the areas where it is found, and it is consumed both in a ritual context, and as a common beverage, integral to daily culture.

Traditionally, there are a range of mythological and mystical stories attributed to this plant and its origins; all of which suggest the importance and relevance this plant is viewed with, and it is believed that this plant promotes dream recall, and connection to the world of the ancestors.

Guayusa contains a range of constituents including caffeine, theobromine, tannins and antioxidants. Due to the caffeine content, consume in moderation.
