A moistening, grounding tonic for joints, connective tissue, and transitional life phases.
Solomon’s Seal (Polygonatum odoratum), a member of the Lily family, is traditionally regarded as a master plant for supporting musculoskeletal integrity. It has long been used to aid the healing of joints, tendons, ligaments, and bones — particularly after strain or injury. Moistening to the mucous membranes, it’s also considered a valuable ally for systemic dryness, especially in the lungs, gut, and during menopause.
This plant is rich in folklore and symbolism. Its Latin name means “many knees,” referencing the nodular root structure — a visual cue to its affinity for the joints. The common name “Solomon’s Seal” comes from the markings on the rhizome, said to resemble wax seals — sometimes even the six-pointed seal of King Solomon himself.
Energetically, it has been described as a Saturnian plant — one that brings support during times of limitation, endings, or threshold crossings, such as the Saturn Return (around ages 28 and 56). Known to offer resilience and grounding, Solomon’s Seal imparts a steady kind of wisdom.
